Research Interests

Wheat production under climate changes: The highly variable and unpredicted rainfall within and between seasons, which characterize the Mediterranean region, results in significant yield losses. Our research focuses on improving wheat production under changing climate.

Prof. Abraham Halevy

Born 1927 in Tel-Aviv. Received Ph.D. from the Hebrew University in 1958.
Founded the Department of Ornamental Horticulture at the Hebrew University in 1964
and served as the Head of Department for 21 years, until 1985.

Nominated Full Professor in Horticulture and Plant Physiology in 1970, and Wolfsan Chair in 1982.
Served as a Research Fellow at Plant Industry Station,  Beltsville  USDA (1958-9) and as a Visiting Professor, Michigan State University (1964-5) and the University of California, Davis (1970-1, 1973, 1975-6, 1982-4, 1986-7, 1989, 1991-2).

Prof. Amos Dovrat

Born 1920, Rotterdam; Ph.D. 1963, Hebrew Univ.; Lect. 1959; Sen. Lect. 1964; Assoc. Prof. 1970; 1982; Emeritus 1990.

Professor Dovrat passed away on July 18, 2012 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife Tamar, his children, grand-children and great granchildren.

Major Projects

  1. The balance between morphogenesis, growth and differentiation in leaf development, and the interaction between transcription factors and hormones in regulating this balance.
  2. Patterning of the leaf margin: Differential growth at the leaf margins enables enormous variability of leaf shape. We investigate the regulators of leaf patterning. Specifically, we investigate the role of auxin and its regulators in leaf patterning.
  3. Regulation of fruit set in tomato.
