Welcome to the Zait Lab!

Photosynthesis is the most important process on earth and our research focuses on the factors that control photosynthesis under our ever-changing environment. Current research aims to understand the mechanism that controls CO2 diffusion from the atmosphere to the site of carboxylation in the chloroplast. By using physiological, genetic and molecular tools to manipulate factors such as the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, we aim to improve photosynthesis in model plants that are under dynamic environmental changes i.e., drought, temperature and nitrogen.  We will apply this knowledge to selected species and cultivars of agronomic importance such as the banana, avocado and grapevine.
